“Everything we personally own that's made, sold, shipped, stored, cleaned, and ultimately thrown away does some environmental harm every step of the way, harm that we're either directly responsible for or is done on our behalf.”
- Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia and co-founder of 1% for the Planet
As a burgeoning independent skincare brand, well before Day+West’s formulations were perfected or a sale was made, I decided that joining 1% for the Planet was foundational to our ethos. What sets great apart from good is often grounded in personal accountability - and that extends to a commitment to sustainability and ethical practices.
For those who aren’t familiar with 1% for the Planet, it’s a global organization that connects businesses, individuals, and nonprofits, who are all dedicated to giving back to the planet. The idea is simple: companies pledge to donate 1% of their sales to environmental causes. In addition to certifying members’ contributions 1% for the Planet also creates a forum for Day+West to engage with partners taking action - from global initiatives protecting oceans and forests to small community ventures supporting sustainable agriculture.
Day+West is proud to support 1% for the Planet partner World Central Kitchen (WCK). Founded in 2010 by Chef José Andrés, WCK uses the power of food to heal and strengthen communities through times of crisis, to include climate events, and beyond. WCK has transformed the field of disaster response to help devastated communities recover and establish resilient food systems.
When you invest in the pleasure of Day+West skincare, you can be confident in the power of clean, effective formulations - and the power of making a meaningful difference for our planet and fellow humans. For beauty is never only skin deep.
